Three-in-a-Row

Hard Used by Smart Hint

Three clued cells in a row or column, checked together, rule out combinations a single pair can't catch alone — including the classic 1-2-1 and 2-2-2 patterns.

1 2 1

How it works

  1. The classic "1-2-1" pattern — three clues in a row, checked all together instead of pair by pair.
  2. Some combinations that would satisfy any two of the three clues on their own still fail the third — checking all three at once catches those and rules out more than Adjacent Clue Pair can alone.
  3. The same idea applies to three matching clues in a row too (the "2-2-2" pattern), and to three collinear cells in a column, not just a row.
